I was thinking the same of myself since I was unfamiliar with the original song.  Then I realized I knew every single reference Al made in his lyrics.  Every single one of them.

For example, I caught four Star Trek references: Earl Grey Tea, javascript and "Klingon", Kirk or Picard, and the flashing of the Vulcan hand sign at the end.  And if I'm missing one, it's probably because I haven't noticed it yet.  But the real kicker is the bootleg tape of the Star Wars holiday special.</description>
