When you watch car commercials these days, you can’t tell what’s real and what isn’t. Cars turn into horses that turn into dragons. The road becomes an airstrip, then turns into a stretch of ocean beach. Everything is CGI, nothing is left unmodified. The car is perfect, the driver is perfect.
Twenty years ago, if you wanted to film a jaw-dropping car commercial, you couldn’t just throw money and computers at it. You had to approach it very differently. You had to use a real car, and you had to use real drivers.
And if you wanted it to look this impressive, you bloody well had to hire people who could really drive a car.
